Frida Kahlo
We had a special visitor in the classroom. Mali, Maria Ines’s grandmother, came to kinder 10 to talk to students about Frida Kahlo. She explained details about Kahlo’s life and she answered the list of questions students had.
Then she showed a book of Frida’s paintings, explaining the characteristic style of the painter. She explained why Frida painted so many self-portraits and that she enjoyed painting animals too. Students learned that Frida painted surrealist paintings, that’s why her paintings seem like dreams or things she imagined that weren’t real. After this, she showed a box of pastels and demonstrated how students could paint like Frida using a pastel technique. She did a Frida portrait and then showed students how to mix colors to create different colors.
She invited students to go to the tables and paint like Frida, using the pastels. Students let their imagination fly and painted creative pictures inspired by Frida’s work.
